Prabin Bhattarai (prabinflicks)
My journey in media has been a complete rollercoaster, but no matter how slow the turns got, I never quit.
It all started in a small village in Morang, Nepal. I uploaded my very first YouTube video back in 2011 after the artist Raju Dangal gave me his album; I compiled clips from a movie, paired it with the music, and put it online. Though that original account is long gone, the spark stayed with me.
When I moved to Australia, life became a hustle of grinding through long shifts (ghanta hanna), but I still found ways to create, even launching an online radio station straight from my bedroom in Sydney. In 2018, I picked up vlogging with a video of the Rockdale Holi Mela. When the pandemic hit hard in 2019, I built Hometown Studio from my room, producing music and dropping “Self-Isolation,” a song reflecting those crazy COVID times. Once the Sydney lockdowns lifted, I hit the streets filming the city, continuing my passion for visual storytelling.
In 2022, I moved to Austin, Texas, documenting the transition through vlogs, before finally relocating to Virginia in 2024. There, I had the opportunity to work with Bistreams ANM before the project unexpectedly wrapped up. Never one to sit idle, I pivoted during the GenZ protests in Nepal, monitoring social media closely and launching live streams to keep viewers informed.
That brings us to now. I am fully back to building my main channel, prabinflicks. Recently, after introducing a colleague to the richness of Nepali cuisine and culture, they inspired me to take it a step further. That spark gave birth to Chronicles of Nepal, a dedicated space where I dive deep into our traditions, food, and heritage.
I’ve been through the ups, the downs, and the complete restarts, and I’m not stopping anytime soon. Welcome to the journey.
